Happy Fall!

It's time for the quarterly blog post.

The theme today is FALL / AUTUMN.

I'm being obsessed by apple products: ciders, apple brandy, applejack, apple wine. Been mixing up some tasty apple cocktails. You can keep your appletini, though. </snob> I feel lucky to have good local apple products to drink. (clicky click!)

Also I've got a yen for trying some pumpkin ales. Of course, the one I want and could possibly get is only in St. Louis. I may try another kind.

Also, in case you're not aware of the Old Chicago Oktoberfest mini-tour (or can't get to one), here's the list of brews needed to complete the tour:

  • Paulaner Wiesn Blonde
  • Old Chicago Festivaläger
  • Warsteiner Brewing
  • Spaten Brewing
  • Ayinger Brewing
  • Samuel Adams Brewing
  • Franziskaner Brewing
  • Beck’s Brewing
I'm pretty sure that all but the first two are available elsewhere.
The Weisn Blonde is YUMMMY! I'll stop rhapsodizing about it and let you read the reviews at Beer Advocate.

If anyone wants me to post yummy autumn drink recipes, let me know.

Three Sheets

Has anyone heard of this show? Does anyone have a DVR? Does anyone want copies of the show? I can mail them to you on DVD-R!

During the Belgium episode they visit Mort Subite and Delirium Cafe (the bars) and the Orval monastery. !!!

It's my new favorite show, other than the BBC's Coast. It's a travel show about drinking. Yay! It's both stupid and intelligent! Yay!

So if you have a DVR please please pleeeez set it to record Three Sheets on the Travel Channel, Wednesdays at 10 and 10:30 PM, OR just watch it. If enough people watch, they'll film a fifth season.

Ben likes it too.

Midwestern IPA Beers

Apparently the Midwest totally rocks for IPA's, and the coasts just wish they could get some. We are indeed blessed.

I spose; I'm not sure I've had an IPA? Saw em at Hy-Vee the other day?

More?

I've been continuing to try out new drinks, but haven't blogged them. Is anyone interested in me continuing to blog them?

Painkiller

from Beachbum Berry Remixed

4 oz unsweetened pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
1 oz Coco Lopez (sweetened coconut cream) (I used Coco Real)
2.5 oz Pusser's Navy Rum or dark Jamaican rum (I used Myers's Ubiquitous Dark)
Powdered cinnamon
Ground nutmeg

Shake juices, coconut, and rum with plenty of crushed ice. Pour unstrained into a tall glass or Tiki mug. Dust with cinnamon and nutmeg. Garnish with [stuff I didn't use].

Super yum! Tropical fruity with rum, nuff said.

Passion Daiquiri

from Mr. Boston (Platinum Edition)

1.5 oz light rum (10 Cane)
1 oz lime juice
1 tsp simple syrup
1 T passion fruit syrup

Shake with ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

This one was also a bit sour. Ben has suggested that the passion fruit syrup is a bit tart, so I may up the simple syrup or reduce the lime/lemon on my next attempt. Otherwise yummy and refreshing.
